AutoBiography

My name is Ian Ortiz, I was born in Denver, CO on April 5th 1994. I'm 17 years old and am a junior with hopes of graduating with the class of 2011.
I have been attending Yampah for about 2 school years now and they have helped me out a lot with completing my goals.
I'd say that I have a very laid back personality and I'm usually really shy. I would say my biggest strength is that I have the willpower
to handle my responsibility's. I think now that I'm getting older my understanding of my self and others is growing as well.
I love to learn new things and I usually want to see multiple points of view on the matter. I feel that seeing things from different prospectives gives me an overall, bigger lookout on the world.

My mom was only 19 when I was born. She still lived with my grandparents and she worked at St. Anthony's hospital
in Lakewood, Colorado while raising my sister who is about 2 years older than me.
I don't think we could ask for a better mother, she has always been my main support. She raised me and my sister
without our fathers so she's always had to work hard. She always kept her head up even though we were usually broke while I was growing up.
My moms always made me go to school and in the most ways taught me to be responsible. I remember she was never really able to get us the things we wanted but she was always there. We moved up here about 3 years ago when she got married and its been working out good for everybody.
She's very proud that my sister and I are graduating together this year.

I can't say much about my dad because I honestly don't know him that well. He wouldn't come around much when I was little,
but when he did he would usually have a gift for me so I would always be so happy to see him.
He went to prison when I was in 4th grade and he got out when I was in 8th grade. Since he's been out we haven't really been around each other much so I'd say that we haven't really, "bonded".

I have 3 sisters and one brother that I have never met before. I only grew up with my oldest sister.
She has recently moved out but I still see her often because we go to school together. Her name is Breanna Ortiz and she's 19 years old.
After me, my dad had two more daughters. Their names are Serenity who I believe is 5 or 6.
And than there is Ciara who will be 14 in October. I have a big family but I wouldn't say that I'm close, or that I even keep in touch with a lot them.
My moms  side of my family is very religious and most of them live very respectable lifestyles.
My dads side of my family is very different, I would never view
any of them as bad people but I think some of the choices they make arent always accepted in society.
I feel more comfortable around them because I can get away with a lot more and I don't ever feel like I'm being judged when I make mistakes.

I think the biggest change in my life to this day would have to be when I moved to Rifle from Denver.
When I first came I stayed for about two months but I didn't like it at all.
I wanted to move back so I could attend my freshman year of high school with my friend Christian.
So I moved to Arvada with my Aunty Emily (may she rest in peace) and my cousin Tawnya.
About a month later my dad got his first place since his release so I decided to move in with him.
We would always fight, and about once a week he would tell me that he was going to kick me out.
After about two or three months I got sick of it and decided to move in
with my aunty Anjelika and my Grandma Angie. I was real happy living there,
I had all the freedom I could ask for. But that eventually led me into trouble.
The summer after my freshman year was really crazy, and by the end I just wanted to get away from everything.
I decided to move back to Rifle with my mom, and two days later I started attending Yampah.
When I first came back I still didn't like it because I would miss my friends,

family, and the city that I grew up in. But over time I got use being away.

I've realized that the worlds a big place and I shouldn't let anything

in my past hold me back from doing anything in the future.
I now feel really grateful that my mom moved away because it gave me the
opportunity to escape my life in Denver and just focus on school. I'm glad I chose to come to Yampah because they
have really helped me grow academically and for the

first time they had me thinking about my future and what I want out of life.
Without their help and flexibility I probably would've dropped out, and definitely would not be graduating a year early.
